In 1973 on British Columbia’s Vancouver Island, John William Oughtred Sr. put down roots in the coffee industry, founding The Oughtred Roasting Works.

My day today: Oversee the strategic development of our company while striving to help improve the quality and sustainability of our coffee programs year after year.

Louis Li


Position: IT Manager

My day today: Cup of coffee, check emails, check all IT systems, work on projects, work of ad hoc issues, sometimes online meetings, more coffee, repeat.

Fun Fact about me: Loves anything on 2 wheels, photography, nature, car culture

Tommy Clark

My day today: Identifying new business, working with existing customers to grow our business internally using point of sale strategies

Fun Fact about me: Enjoy hiking in the mountains, hockey & badminton.

Michael Menashy


Position: Manager of Tea Sparrow division

My day today: My kids are early risers so we spend the mornings together. Once they are off to school, I generally spend the day touching base with customers and keeping myself available to support production and fulfillment. Developing new teas and meeting new tea enthusiasts are always the highlights of the day for me.

Fun Fact about me: I like to build both green spaces and houses.

My go to drink: A clean, crisp, slightly astringent iced Assam/Kenyan blend black tea, or a rare Assam tea leaf from one of the regions micro-framers.

 

Erik Huang

Fun fact about me: I'm a bit of a movie buff, although I'm a lot pickier these days.

Amrutha Gopakumar

My day today: I assist customers in streamlining their Accounts Receivable processes.

Fun Fact about me: I have a deep passion for culinary exploration, immersing myself in diverse flavours through both cooking and savoring exceptional dishes.

My day today: almost same routine - woke up, work, eat, sleep

Fun Fact about me: Foodie (Dine out at restaurants). Also sightseeing, hiking, snowshoeing.

Sue Peters

Position: Chief Financial Officer

My day today: I manage the corporate financial operation, cash flow, AP/AR and administration department. I enjoy working with numbers and analyzing the company’s financial to ensure revenue and expenses stay balance. I work alongside the CEO to provide accurate and transparent financial reporting that is useful for making strategic decision.

Fun Fact about me: I used to be a tea drinker until I started working at Oughtred Coffee & Tea 16 years a go. It doesn’t take me long to appreciate the benefit of the good aromas of coffee in the morning.

Today I become a fanatic coffee drinker and I will feel guilty to start my day without having my first cup of coffee in the morning.

My go to drink: Medium coffee ( Reserve espresso , Guatemala, F & F Selkirk Moose) for tea ( Chai and fruity tea for summer ice tea.

Viraj Dhananjaya


Position: Director of Planning

My day today: My day involves strategic planning, optimizing processes, managing the production team, controlling inventory, maintaining quality, ensuring compliance.

Fun Fact about me: I travel to unwind, but I play cricket like it’s a world cup final every weekend in summer.

My go to drink: A freshly brewed Ethiopian in the morning & A Cappuccino with nice art before head out.

 

Antonio Fernandez


Position: Head of QC at the Oughtred Roasting Works

Year started: 2022

My day today: Create, monitor, manage and taste our 120+ coffee roasting profiles to make sure every roast and every cup is delicious.

Our favourite thing about you: Antonio just loves roasting coffee and trying to find new ways to express different flavours with a variety of different roasting techniques. A modern-day coffee equivalent to Jacques Cousteau.

Fun Fact about me: We don’t know for sure, but we all think that Antonio’s blood contains 50% of espresso and 50% of love for his orange Cat. Meow!

My go to drink: The first espresso of the day

 

John Iong


Position: Account Manager – Lower Mainland

Started: 2022

My day today: Oversees our account management program in the lower mainland and is responsible for developing our training program.

Our favourite thing about you: John cares deeply about his customers and works hard to help them succeed.

Fun Fact about me: John enjoys cooking and finding inspiration from new ingredients, techniques and dishes he comes across.

My go to drink: Fresh harvest arrivals from Ethiopia brewed via pour over.

 

Rishab Sharma


Position: Operations and Logistics Manager

My day today: Think of me as the behind-the-scenes maestro, making sure operations and logistics at our Lower Mainland Distribution Facility run like clockwork. I also oversee tea operations—handling shipping, inventory, and stock planning to keep everything flowing smoothly.

Our favourite thing about you: Rishab is a customer service powerhouse, always bringing the energy and making sure everyone has a great experience.

Fun Fact about me: Gym, hiking and have fun!

My go to drink: A shot of espresso to start the day strong and a black tea in the afternoon for a smooth, steady energy boost.

 

Nadia Ermakova


Position: Digital Marketing

Started: 2024

My day today: Every day is different, usually my day starts with caffeine, then emails and social media inquires, planning and scheduling content, chat with roasters and learning more about coffee and tea.

Fun Fact about me: I love hiking and enjoying the beauty of outdoors. Cooking or/and trying exotic food are another my go-to things.

My go to drink: Espresso early in the morning, following with drip coffee or trying new tea blends from Teasparrow.com

 

Greg Ng


Position: Assistant Roaster

Started: 2023

My day today: Production roasting as the centre of my duty, I also take care of the schedule planning as well as the roasters maintenance on a daily and weekly basis.

Fun Fact about me: A coffee at 7pm doesn't stop me from falling asleep ;)

My go to drink: A very SWEET espresso regardless of where it came from.

My go to drink: Our in house Reserve Espresso in the perfect Cappuccino style.

Dylan Flechl


Position: Customer service rep

Started: 2024

My day today: A typical day for me starts at around 6:30 or 7:00 in the morning. I drive over to the warehouse and check my desk and email for picklists or anything important that I need to see. Then I will pick my orders for the day load up the van, get my invoices the I hit the road complete my delivery’s then sometimes I will drop of samples our coffee and a business card to potential new accounts. Then I will head back to the warehouse pack my orders for the next day, clean and lock up and then head home!

Favorite hobby outside of work: My favorite thing do outside of work is Hockey, Playing hockey, watching hockey, talking about hockey, if it has to do with hockey you can count me in!

My go to drink: My favorite drink has to be iced tea, favorite drink that we sell would of to be the wrapped sachet hot cinnamon spice tea.
