Oughtred Coffee & Tea Celebrates its 35th Anniversary!
April 1st, 1973 was the first official day of operation for the once very small and local coffee company, started by John Oughtred in Nanaimo, BC.
In the year that saw George Foreman defeat Joe Frazer; The Queen's opening of the London Bridge; Watergate and Pink Floyd's release of what would become one of the best selling albums of all time "Dark side of the moon" Oughtred coffee and Tea was born.

From very humble beginnings (sales were believed to be somewhere around $700.00 that year, although because it is a privately held company, gathering this type of information can be difficult) John Oughtred began to build a company on three simple yet timeless qualities:

1. Quality
2. Service
3. Education

His family had been involved in business on Vancouver Island since the 1920's and from a young age, John was raised on the virtues of hard work and honesty.

These foundations would prove to serve both John and his company well, as is well evidenced by his ability to withstand the many trials and tribulations that a small business can and will deliver over a span of four decades - especially the coffee industry.

Today, John is still the CEO, President and driving force behind his family run business that remains a leader in Western Canada's emerging coffee scene. The last time we spoke (November, 2007), John employed over 50 people, expected to roast just over 1 million lbs of coffee and had six different warehouses/roasting facilities strategically spread out throughout the province of BC.

Oughtred Coffee & Tea is testament to the patience, hard work and vision of its founder and after 35 years of successful operation, we would like to wish John congratulations on all his success and hope that the next 35 are as good as the first.
