 A family venture.


In 1973 on beautiful British Columbia’s Vancouver Island, John William Oughtred Sr. put down roots in the West Coast coffee industry, founding Oughtred Coffee & Tea. From these humble beginnings emerged a resounding family business that would one day stand tall in the coffee industry.

Now in our second generation of ownership, the company stands proudly managed by John Sr.’s sons Michael and John Jr., expanding the vast global coffee network their father established.

Maintaining the company’s core principles, the sons now charge headfirst into the 21st century as global leaders and experts within their industry.

Pouring generations of passion and experience into our craft, our commitment is to great coffee from our table to yours.

Titus Varga

Oversees our account management team and is responsible for developing our barista training program.

Jon Patterson

Business Development – Vancouver Island

Co-manage sales, café consulting, and business development on Vancouver Island and the Gulf Islands.

Jon has an amazing energy level and passion for helping others.

Fun fact
I love cuisine! Whether cooking, researching new recipes, eating while traveling, or trying out a new restaurant in town. There’s a very good chance I’m thinking about food at this very moment..

Single origin fresh crop via 1:16 chemex or 1:15 aeropress, I like strong flavourful coffee.

Also very much a fan of espresso over a botanical tonic.

I only need one thing in the morning, coffee. I love the OFS Reserve 3 Wheel Spro as an Americano or the OFS Colombian Nariño dark brewed in my Espro press.

Samantha Palmer

Coordinate CSR for Delta/Northern Vancouver Island Region as well as assisting with directing service calls.

Sam is a keen learner and is always looking for ways to help out a customer. She genuinely loves helping provide solutions for our customers.

An adventurer of my own town with the love of all life.

A stone ground London Fog latte made with half almond/half homo milk. A drink made for perfection in my eyes.

Fun fact
Before I started my Coffee Career back in 2002, one of my favorite drinks was a gas station coffee filled with sugar and French Vanilla creamers.

Favourite drink
For me it’s a tie… If it’s a hot drink then I would have to say my morning Chemex.  Come afternoon, there is not much better than an ice cold IPA.

Create, monitor, manage and taste our 120+ coffee roasting profiles to make sure every roast and every cup is delicious.

Our favourite thing about you
Kevin just loves coffee and trying to find new ways to express different flavours with a variety of different roasting techniques. A modern day coffee equivalent to Jacques Cousteau

Fun fact
Before coffee, just some of my resume entries includes Personal Trainer, Janitor, several different jobs as various Mascots, Chocolatier, Museum Inventory, Insect Pheromone production and a summer as a Labourer for a mobile mini-putt course across BC.

Favourite drink
The best coffee I have ever had was our Notch Sumatra Boru Batak; sweet, smoky, spicy and fruity all at the same time.

Maria Brownlow

When I am not drinking coffee or exploring the beautiful Vancouver Island trails with my coffee in tow, I’m also a yoga instructor.

Brendan Wust

Love trying new coffee offerings and specialty drink concoctions.  Basically a Guinea Pig for anything new.

I always go to my bread and butter staple of a Chai Tea Latte with of course a triple shot of espresso.

Sue Peters

What you really do day to day
Oversee accounts payable and assist with customer service and accounts receivables when required.

Sue is one of the nicest people you will ever meet. She is a dedicated and committed team member who helps keep our backend in order.

Fun fact
I used to not like coffee but now I drink at least 2 cups a day and choose coffee over chocolate!

Favourite drink
Pour over drip coffee using fresh roasted Burundi. Cold brew with a dash of bailey is also my favourite for afternoon weekend.

Norm Gallano

Oversee the production and quality control of our coffees.
